These "impressions" are digitally manipulated photographic works, inspired by impressionist and post-impressionist painters. Using photographs from my travels, the imagery is created to reflect the (post)impressionist style, as well as capture the essence of the impressionist era. Impressionism was a reaction against the classical style and the controlling Salon in the late 1800s. The artists aimed to capture every day life during moments of leisure and toil, a rejection to the Academy's claim that only "historical art" was real art. It is these moments of leisure that I have chosen as the subject of these works, basing each creation off of the work of an (post)impressionist painter, such as Monet or van Gogh.
